every は、all のように「ひっくるめて全部」ではありません。
「どの～もみんな」のように、個々に意識が向けられます。
every が単数扱いとなるのもこの理由からだそうです。

私は彼の言葉を注意深く聞いた。
You must attend all the meetings, and I mean every meeting, understand?
会議は全部出なさい。全てのミーティングだよ。わかった？
▶ each
every one of two or more things or people, considered separately [LDOCE]
「それぞれの」「各々の」と訳されるように、全体への意識は薄いですが、everyと同じように個々のものが強く意識されています。
She had a bottle in each hand.
彼女はそれぞれの手でボトルを持っていた。
The tickets cost $20 each. (= Each ticket costs $20.)
チケットはそれぞれ20ドル。
